The first tenshu (main tower) of Imabari castle, erected by Todo Takatora in 1604, lasted for only 2 years, because… it was dismantled to be moved. The construction material were transported far away, near Kyoto, and the reconstructed tower became the Kameyama castle.
The tenshu and the yagura (turrets) we see today are a recent construction, only the walls and the moat filled with ocean water remaining from the old castle.
