Tōdō Takatora was a famous samurai from the Sengoku period, well known for its extensive knowledge in castle design and defence. After the Battle of Sekigahara, he received as reward the Iyo-Imabari domain, in the Shikoku island.
He used the advantage of the terrain, building here the Imabari castle, which became known as a Mizujiro, or “Castle on the sea"… The Imabari castle was dismantled during the Meiji period, but it was reconstructed in 1980, and it looks now as impressive as it looked in the medieval period…
