Established 1,200 years ago by Minamoto no Tsunemoto, the Benzaiten temple on the shores of the Inikashira Pond was an important place during the Edo period.
It is known that the shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu was coming here, using the pond’s water for tea. He also modernized the water supply of the Edo city, selecting the pond’s water as source of drinking water and connecting it to the Kanda River.
