The Ishiguro Samurai Residence in Kakunodate is the oldest samurai house in the town, built at the middle of the 18th century. The house belonged to a samurai family which fulfilled the job of yonin (administrator or household secretary) of the Northern Satake clan. It was the highest ranking family in Kakunodate’s Samurai District.
