The Bitchū Matsuyama castle is one of the 12 surviving Japanese castles, and, among them, is the only mountain castle (yamashiro). However, most of its walls and yagura turrets were demolished, and besides the main keep, only one turret survived, the Niju Yagura, photographed here.
The small but picturesque two-storied turret is located right in the back of the main tower, accessible via a narrow corridor lined by thick walls.
