Each of the 9 gardens comprising the Himeji Koko-en is a quintessence of an Edo period gardening style. The largest of them, the “lord’s house” garden (Oyasiki-no-niwa), represents the promenade style, with the pond shaped to evoke the Seto Inland Sea. Surrounded by carefully selected and painstakingly trimmed trees, the pond is the home of over 250 colorful nishikigoi brocaded carps. Simply beautiful!
