The Statue of Liberty from New York has hundreds of smaller replicas, all over the world. And almost every replica has its own story: some were built to commemorate something, others were gifts and one was even built for a movie… There are even Lego versions!
The story of the Statue of Liberty from Odaiba, Tokyo, started in April 1998 when, on the occasion of the “French year in Japan", the original statue made by Bartholdi (which is currently displayed in Paris, in the Jardin du Luxembourg) was brought to Odaiba. The French Statue of Liberty remained here until May 1999, but its popularity grew very fast, so in 2000 a replica was made and put on permanent display, soon becoming one of the symbols of Odaiba…
