Because Japanese people like cute objects, they are designing to look pretty even the most ordinary and mundane things, like manhole covers (manhoru in Japanese), warning panels or roadside barriers.
Take a look at this roadside barrier shaped like a cute frog, spotted in front of the Shinjuku Station, overly detailed considering its usage: the frog on the back has even a different expression. And by the care taken for their storage and assembly, I guess even the workers are appreciating these cute things. And I also saw roadside barriers shaped like cute rabbits, monkeys and panda bears…
