One of the most popular Japanese souvenirs is Maneki Neko, the “beckoning cat", a ceramic cat sculpture used as charm for good luck and prosperity. You can buy them almost anywhere in Japan, in hundreds of versions, sizes and colors.
However, if you wish a “special” one, you can find it at the Gōtokuji Temple in Setagaya, Tokyo, the temple were Tama, the real Maneki Neko, once lived.
Here you will find racks with literally hundreds of Maneki Neko statues, placed there by people praying for good luck, success, prosperity and also for lost or ill cat pets…
