The Kanazawa city has 5 zones inscribed in the Japanese historic preservation category of Groups of Traditional Buildings (Dentōteki Kenzōbutsu-gun). Among them, the most spectacular is the Higashiyama Higashi Chaya district, a high-class geisha district built during the the Edo period.
