Dating since the Heian period, the 7 kilometers long Shijo-dori is the most famous street from Kyoto. Its most beautiful part is the section between the Yasaka Shrine’s gate (from where I took this wide angle photo) and the Shijo Ohashi bridge (near the Minami-za theater).
There are a lot of modern buildings here, but the covered sidewalk was design to look somehow traditional and was provided with night illuminations made with traditionally looking lanterns… It looks beautiful and it’s a good place for a stroll, during rainy or torrid summer days.
