Japanese modern architecture, Osaka station glass roof

Fri, June 27, 2014, by Muza-chan

Ōsaka Station, which together with the connected Umeda Station is the busiest railway station in Western Japan, is a complex including the North Gate Building and the South Gate Building, connected between the 3rd and 5th floors by a large overpass that runs above 11 train line platforms.

The most striking space of this station, called Toki no Hiroba, is the top floor of the overpass, located right under the dramatic glass roof that defines the Ōsaka Station’s architecture. The name can be translated as “Times Square", and comes from the two large clocks surmounting the area, one of them visible in today’s photo.
