Japanese superlatives, the oldest wooden buildings in the world

Established 1400 years ago, the Hōryū-ji Temple in Nara is one of the oldest in Japan. It is known that the original buildings were destroyed by a lightning fire in the year 670, and the temple was rebuilt at the beginning of the 8th century, in 711, and these buildings survived until today, being now the oldest wooden buildings in the world.

They are the main hall (Kondo) and the five-story pagoda (in the photo), whose central pillar is made from a tree that was cut… in 594!
