There are many superstitions in Japan, some original, some “imported"… Here’s a very old one, which survived until today: if the cloth strap of a geta (traditional wooden Japanese sandal) snaps, you will have bad luck…
Of course, you can avoid this situation by using only good quality products (I wonder, maybe the superstition was generated by the geta makers…) or you can walk very careful. But the second is not an option if you need to dance on the street at a festival…
