There are more than 100 varieties of sakura in Japan, some of them so similar that only a specialist can flawlessly identify them. But among the easiest to remember is Kanzan, a variety that blossoms later than most others, for example in Tokyo it is in full bloom during mid to late April, when other cherry trees are long withered.
