The Kōdōkan complex in Mito was the largest han (domain) school in the Edo period, covering a surface of 17.8ha. The complex included halls dedicated to specific branches of knowledge, like the building photographed here which was the hall for disciplines such as Confucianism, history, astronomy, mathematics, and music.
