The charm of Little Edo, travel tip

Sat, April 19, 2014, by Muza-chan

Tokyo isn’t known for offering many historical attractions, but if you want to spend some time on a street perfectly preserved as it was during the Edo Period… Then Tokyo is one of the best cities for a side-trip, because you can easily visit an amazing place, Kawagoe, once known as Ko-edo, the “Little Edo".

Here you will find a large, greatly preserved historical area, with merchant houses built in the famed kurazukuri style and you can even enjoy the sound of the Toki-no-Kane “Bell of Time”, a 350 years old bell, symbol of the city.

Travel tip: To visit Kawagoe, you can take a train from the Ikebukuro Station. The fastest and most economical line is the Tōbu Tōjō Line Express, which takes just 30 minutes and costs ¥450 (about $4.5).
