Matsue artistic manhole cover with the Shirakata Park giant stone lantern

Mon, September 5, 2016, by Muza-chan

Besides the samurai residences of the Shiomi Nawate street, another Matsue landmark represented on the city’s artistic manhole covers is the giant lantern of the Shirakata Park, nearby the Lake Shinji.

The giant lantern is 6 meters tall and it is made of Kimachi stone, a type of white stone particular to the local area, famous for being easy to carve.
