Nagoya castle original yagura

Mon, November 21, 2016, by Muza-chan

Erected at the beginning of the Edo period, Nagoya castle was one the few castles which survived through the Boshin war, and through the Meiji period, when most of the Japanese castles were dismantled. Unfortunately, most of the castle burned during the bombings at the end of the WWII, and only several gates and three yagura turrets survived in their originals form. One of these original turrets is the Northwest yagura, photographed here.
