Old samurai house

Sat, June 24, 2017, by Muza-chan

In the medieval Japan, during the Edo period, the samurai were living in designated neighborhoods, located around the lord’s castle. The higher the rank, the closest to the castle was the house.

Photographed here is a perfectly preserved samurai house in Yamaguchi, built at the base of the mountain were the castle was built. Today a museum, it was the home of the Mekata family, a middle ranking samurai of Iwakuni.
