Oldest temple in Tokyo, Senso-ji

Mon, August 19, 2019, by Muza-chan

Senso-ji, the most popular and visited temple in Tokyo is also the oldest temple in the city, established 1374 years ago. Most of today’s buildings were reconstructed during the 1960s, like the gate photographed here, called Hozomon.

The largest lantern, in the middle of the gate, has a height of 3.75 m, a diameter of 2.7 m and a weight of 400 kg, and was donated in 2003 by the people of Kobunachō to mark the 400th-year-anniversary of the start of the Edo period.
