Sakurajima Tsukiyomi shrine

Sun, June 9, 2019, by Muza-chan

Photographed here is the most important shrine on Sakurajima, dedicated to Tsukiyomi, the god of the moon and sea, and to Konohana-sakuya-hime, the deity of Mount Fuji and other volcanoes.

The original Tsukiyomi shrine was covered by lava during the Sakurajima eruption in 1914, and it was later reconstructed on today’s place, close to the ferry station.
