It is said that the architecture of Saruhashi, one of the finest three bridges of Japan (together with Kintai-kyo and Shinkyo), was inspired by a story about a group of monkeys hoding hands to cross the river, hence the name of Saruhashi, meaning the “monkey bridge". Although Saruhashi was reconstructed several times during its history, the original form was always reserved.
