One of my favorite buildings from Tokyo’s skyscraper district Nishi-Shinjuku is the headquarter of Sompo Japan Insurance, one of the big financial companies from Japan (Sompo means “property insurance"). Also, at the 42nd floor, there’s a Museum of Art dedicated to the Japanese painter Seiji Togo.
I love the graceful shape of the building. The architects’ (Uchida Shozo) intention was to give the building a shape reminding of Mount Fuji. Also, it is often pointed out that, seen from the side, the buildings looks similar to the second A from Atari logo.
By its height, the Sompo Japan Building is the 23rd in Tokyo, with 193 meters.

Una din clădirile mele preferate din Nishi-Shinjuku este sediul lui Sompo Japan Insurance, una din marile companii de asigurări din Japonia. Numele “Sompo” înseamnă “property insurance". La etajul 42 se află şi un muzeu de artă dedicat pictorului japonez Seiji Togo.
Pe mine m-a cucerit prin forma sa graţiosă. Intenţia arhitectului (Uchida Shozo) a fost ca, privită dintr-o parte, clădirea să amintească de forma muntelui Fuji. De asemenea, multă lume remarcă asemănarea cu litera A din sigla Atari.
Sompo Japan Building este pe locul la 23-lea din Tokyo după înălţime, cu cei 193 de metri.
