Stream in the Koraku-en garden

In a Japanese garden the streams have multiple roles, from aesthetic and to cooling the atmosphere during the hot summer days. But there’s also a spiritual meaning, because according to Sakuteiki ("Records of Garden Making"), the oldest Japanese book about garden design, the streams crossing the garden from East to West, will cleansing it from evil, attracting good fortune.
