The sacred tree of the Kasuga Taisha shrine in Nara is more than a thousand years old, and it was painted in 1309 on the Kasuga Gongen Genki scrolls. Today, this impressive sugi tree (Cryptomeria Japonica, known also as Japanese Cedar) has a height of 23 meters and a circumference of 7.94 meters.
