Tokyo 2020 mascots, Miraitowa and Someity

Thu, March 21, 2019, by Muza-chan

The two friendly mascots designed for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and Paralympics were selected by the votes of the children in the elementary schools.

The blue character is named Miraitowa and it is the mascot of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. The name comes from the Japanese words mirai, meaning “future” and towa, meaning “eternity".

The pink character is the mascot for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, and it is named Someity, from the cherry blossom variety Somei Yoshino while also echoing the English words “so mighty".
