Tokyo Architecture, Mikimoto Ginza 2

Sun, June 5, 2011, by Muza-chan

Close to the De Beers Ginza building, the flagship store of the most important diamonds company, you ca admire another great piece of architecture, the Mikimoto Ginza 2 building, owned by the company producing the finest pearls in the world.

The Mikimoto company was established by Kokichi Mikimoto, the one who produced the first cultured pearl in the world, and their first store was opened in Ginza in 1899.
Finished in 2005, the Mikimoto Ginza 2 was designed by the architect Toyo Ito and it is a marvel of engineering, with walls made of 56 meters tall steel sheets.

It is a delightful building, its irregular windows combined with the pale pink color giving a sense of harmony and good mood…
