400 years ago, the Uwajima domain on the Shikoku Island was given to the famous Date clan, as a reward for the military service during the Osaka campaign. The ruler of the domain became the oldest son of Date Masamune, Hidemune, who thus established a new branch of the Date clan, which ruled over the Uwajima domain for 9 generations.
Photographed here is the interior of the Uwajima castle keep, which remained in its original form. The art displayed inside the castle, with themes related to the Date clan, belongs to a famous Japanese artist, Hidekichi Shigemoto, and was exhibited here last year, on the occasion of the anniversary of 400 years.
