Most of the Shinto shrines in Japan are built according to several common shrine styles, but there are some remarkable exceptions, like the Kyoto Heian Jingu, dedicated to Emperor Kanmu and Emperor Komei.
The shrine’s architecture was designed to be a replica of the old Imperial palace from the Heian period. Photographed here is one of its two towers, named Byakko-ro, the “White Tiger tower".
