With a history of more than 1100 years, Yamadera (meaning “mountain temple") is a complex of buildings erected over a mountainside, in a place of astonishing beauty.
Officially named Risshaku-ji, it was established as a branch temple of Enryaku-ji on Mt. Hiei near Kyoto, by a monk named Jikaku Daishi.
