Located not far from the well-known Akihabara “Electric Town”, the Kanda Myojin Shrine is one of the oldest and most important shrines in Tokyo. Its sumptuous main gate, Zuishin-mon, has an impressive and very interesting architecture, decorated on the outside with Zuijin kami represented as Heian Period bodyguards of the Emperor, and on the inside with… a pair of horses.
The horses are related to the family crest of Taira no Masakado, a famous samurai who lived during the Heian Period and who is now enshrined here…
