The largest tomb in Tokyo

Sun, June 23, 2013

Close to the Tokyo Tower, between the Daitoku-in Mausoleum Somon Gate and the Prince Park Tower Hotel, there’s a green park, completely covered by trees.

Although it impossible to clearly see it, this is Maruyama Kofun, one of the famous Japanese Kofun megalithic keyhole-shaped mound tombs, zempō-kōen-fun 「前方後円墳」. With a length of more than 100 meters, this is the largest such tomb from Tokyo, estimated to be older than 1500 years.
