There are many, many impressive cherry blossom spots in Japan, but this street in Gion, Kyoto, named Shirakawa-dori, really left a deep impression on me… I returned to this street for several days in a row.
The first day I saw the trees in the moment of perfect full bloom. The next day, the view and the feeling was already different, because the sakura petals were floating in the air like snow. The third day, after a windy night, the trees were already half bare and then I suddenly understood the Japanese sensitivity to the ephemeral beauty of cherry blossoms…
