The Ginkaku pavilion in Kyoto remained in history as the “Silver Pavilion", however it was never covered in silver as originally intended. Ginkaku was built for personal use by the shogun Ashikaga Yoshimasa, who tried to imitate his grandfather, shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu, who constructed the spectacular Kinkaku “Golden Pavilion”.
Unfortunately for him, Yoshimasa run out of money and time, so the pavilion remained as we see it today, and after his death it was converted to a Zen temple, Ginkaku-ji…
