There are two structures over 200 meters tall in Ikebukuro, Tokyo, the Sunshine 60 skyscraper and the Toshima Incineration Plant and both of them holds a record.
In 1978 when it was inaugurated, the Sunshine 60 was the tallest building in East Asia (239.7 meters). It was surpassed in 1985 by the 63 Building from Seul (249 meters), but it remained the tallest building in Japan until 1991, when it was surpassed by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building.
The other structure, the Toshima Incineration Plant (the white tower on the left of the photo) still holds the record of the world’s tallest incinerator chimney (210m). I don’t know why, but these big incineration plants, with their amazingly tall chimneys are giving me anxiety. But they look kind of cool in an aerial photo:
