The Japanese Shinto festivals (matsuri) are also great occasions to appreciate some lesser known traditional crafts. Photographed here is a detail of the float used at the Hakata Gion Yamakasa Matsuri in Fukuoka, an impressive structure lavishly adorned with dolls and miniatures, all painstakingly handcrafted from traditional materials such as paper, silk, wood…
