Japanese Sento Art, Mount Fuji

Mon, April 23, 2012, by Muza-chan

Many Japanese sentō baths have painted walls, with various motifs, especially landscapes. However, not any landscape can be selected as a sentō decoration… only those that bring good luck!
A mountain or a waterfall are lucky images, while a sunset or an autumn landscape, with fallen leafs, are considered to bring bad luck for a sentō…

But which image would be the most auspicious? That, of course, is the Mount Fuji… painted with a blue sky, with fluffy clouds, with its snow covered cone and seen from the lake… well, that will bring good luck and prosperity…
And if you think about it - that’s a powerful, relaxing painting - the customers will enjoy it, will come back to the same sentō and that, of course, will mean prosperity for its owner…
