November is the best month in Japan for “hunting for autumn foliage", an old custom similar to the Hanami cherry blossom viewing. Dating since the Heian Period the hunting for autumn foliage has reached the art world for a long time, and it was featured in poems, theater plays and paintings.
A great example is this fusuma (sliding panel) found inside the Kobuntei house in Mito, decorated with momiji red maple leafs, probably the most spectacular tree during this time of the year.
