Ever since the medieval times, the Kyoto district of Gion hanamachi ("flower town", the Japanese term used for the geisha district), was renowned for its nightlife. Even today, many of its restaurants and tea houses are closed during the day. In the evening, the red lanterns are lit and the streets lined with traditional houses are coming alive…
