Kyoto Tofuku-ji Sand garden and O-karikomi

From the Tofuku-ji Zen temple from Kyoto, where I had the pleasure to admire and photograph several remarkable modern gardens, I already presented the checkered pattern Zen garden and the Zen image of the Ursa Major constellation. The temple offers two more gardens, each of them very beautiful, but very special if they are admired together…

The left side of the garden is made in the dry style, with a kind of checkered pattern, while the right side is a moss garden with tree, rocks and a few rounded bushes (a technique called o-karikomi). And beyond the alley, the landscape changes into a fully green garden, with many o-karikomi, water and a few rocks. An unusual dry-green combination, creating a great harmony…
