Second tallest building in Japan, Rinku Gate Tower Building

Sun, December 18, 2011, by Muza-chan

Many people know what is the tallest building in Japan (Yokohama Landmark Tower, 295.8 meters) or the tallest building in Tokyo (Midtown Tower, 248 meters) and almost all the other skyscrapers in the list of top 10 Tokyo skyscrapers enjoy a lot of popularity. But almost nobody knows about the second tallest building in Japan: located in Rinku Town Osaka (close to the Kansai International Airport), this 256 meters skyscraper is called Rinku Gate Tower Building 「りんくうゲートタワービル」.

With an apparently simple design, Rinku Gate Tower is however a building that draws your attention - at the first look the 3 blocks, each one with a slightly different style and color, are giving the impression of a game, like the architects couldn’t decide between the versions and put them all together.
But then you discover a certain harmony between these elements and the fact that the building changes its appearance when you circle around it. I especially like that the 3 levels have different widths, making the skyscraper seem even taller than it is…

Regarding its usage, the lower levels include conference rooms, the levels in the middle are offices and the top floors are the ANA Gate Tower Hotel. The skyscraper also holds a funny record - it has the highest beer garden in Japan - at the 28th floor, 130 meters above the ground…
