Sightseeing Tokyo - Inokashira Inari Shrine

Fri, April 9, 2010, by Muza-chan

Inside the Inokashira Park, on the lake’s shore, across the Benzaiten Temple, I stumbled upon a beautiful small shrine, dedicated to the Inari god.

The actual shrine is hidden in vegetation and only a few red sparkles can be seen from the alley. Fortunately, the entry is clearly marked by the distinctive vermillion wooden torii.

I followed the narrow path under the torii and a few meters away I arrived to another torii, this time a stone one and slightly larger…

… and a few steps further I arrived at the Shrine:

There are many Inari shrines in Japan (according to National Association of Shinto Shrines, around 32000!) and during my Japan travels, I encountered many hidden, small shrines like this one, and every time, no matter how hurried I was, I always stopped, at least for a photo… :)
