Japan is a conservative country and everywhere you go, you can see the strong presence of traditional culture, even in the way people dress. The Japanese people are often wearing clothing like yukata, kimono, geta…

However, there are some accessories almost forgotten. Only in traditional occasions people are still wearing kasa, the Japanese traditional hats. I wore a type of kasa, the sugegasa, which is a conical hat made of woven dry grass, at Miyajima, while sailing around the great torii… In the past, sugegasa was worn as an efficient protection against both sun and rain. I found it very comfortable, keeping the head ventilated and cool… and creating an interesting photo composition with the modern life-jackets… (^_^)
