Tokyo Sky Tree's mascot, Sorakara-chan

Sat, June 18, 2011, by Muza-chan

The inauguration of the world’s tallest self-standing tower, Tokyo Sky Tree, will take place on May 22, 2012. For months or even years, the new tower will become the main tourist attraction in Tokyo and huge crowds are expected to visit it, so if you plan to visit during the first 6 weeks, please be aware that you will need reservation.

Since Japan is full of mascots, it is obvious that Tokyo Sky Tree has one too. Here is Sorakara-chan, the mascot picked winner by the Tobu Railways from all the 65 mascots that entered the competition.
Her name, Sorakara 「ソラカラ」, is written in katakana (like foreign names) and can be translated as “From the sky". Sorakara-chan’s dress design was inspired by the Tokyo Sky Tree’s framework, her head has the shape of a star and she’s admiring the world through her telescope…

To be honest I’m (just a little bit) disappointed, I was expecting something better… but I’m still looking forward to buy the Sorakara-chan merchandise and to add her to my collection of Japanese souvenirs…
