This small shrine located on the back of the Asakusa-jinja, in the Senso-ji complex, was built a century and a half ago by a fireman named Shinmon Tatsugoro, who was the leader of local fire brigade.
He erected the shrine as thanks for his wife’s recovery after he prayed at the Fushimi Inari-taisha in Kyoto, so the shrine is dedicated to kami Inari and was named Hikan Shrine, “hikan” meaning “success in life".
